Whether you’re sending a single child off to camp or perhaps taking the whole family on a big outdoor adventure, making sure to pack all the essentials could mean the difference between having an OK time and having a GREAT time. Besides the appropriate gear for the occasion, such essentials include sunscreen, insect repellent, and a first aid kit – all must-haves for any outdoor adventure that plans to span a period of hours or days.  There are several camping and hiking-related websites that provide great advice on what to pack, including the details of what to have in your first-aid kit.

Well, based on letters from customers we’ve received over the years, we at Olde Tyme Remedies recommend adding Unker’s salve to your kit (and not just because it’s our product!) What folks have told us they like a lot about Unker’s is that it’s quite versatile. It’s been used by people for decades to treat sore and achy muscles, skin irritations, bug bites and stings, minor cuts, bumps and bruises, skin scrapes, plus joint stiffness and sprains.  So in a nutshell, Unker’s has a place in helping relieve symptoms from many of the most common types of outdoor activity-related injuries. Unker’s won’t take the place of all the other recommended safety supplies, but it certainly will come in handy. That’s why we call it “your medicine cabinet in a jar.”

Unker's Is Off To The Races!

Move over M&Ms, Lowe's and FedEx! Stock car racing sponsorships might be the land of the America's biggest brands, but small-town Unker's is once again making its way to the starting line.

Unker's brand of therapeutic products is sponsoring professional race car driver Matt Wallace in the 2017 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, an annual racing event held at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, FL. The Smyrna races are scheduled to begin February 17 and continue through NASCAR's Speedweek, the sport's annual series of season-kickoff events held in Daytona, FL, leading up to the marquee Daytona 500 race on February 26. Wallace will be racing the black and green #6 Unker's car at New Smyrna.

If the Wallace name seems familiar, it should be where racing is involved. Matt Wallace is the son of NASCAR driver Mike Wallace and nephew of NASCAR drivers Rusty and Kenny Wallace. In addition, Matt's sister Chrissy and cousin Steve are also stock car racing drivers. At the age of nine, the now 21-year old racer from Concord, North Carolina started racing Bandoleros, which are smaller sized stock cars for entry-level drivers. These days Wallace can be found behind the wheel of full-sized and full-speed Super Late Model cars.

Unker's is a multi-purpose therapeutic salve manufactured in Upton, Wyoming by Olde Tyme Remedies, a Cincinnati, Ohio company operated by second generation owner Patricia Pendleton. The company also makes a spray version of the product, called NATURub. Both brands of pain relievers are made with all-natural ingredients and are 100% sourced and made in the USA. The products are sold nationwide at independent pharmacies and specialty retailers, as well as online.

This will not be the first time that the Unker's brand logo has been emblazened on the outer shell of a Wallace-driven race car. Through business connections, Ms. Pendleton met driver Mike Wallace which led to Unker's sponsorship of Wallace's #28 car during the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Daytona.

Olde Tyme Goes BIG Time!

Olde Tyme Remedies, the manufacturer of Unker's and NATURub brands of therapeutic pain remedies, was featured on The Balancing Act® airing on Lifetime® Television, a nationally broadcast TV show that airs weekday mornings.   Patricia Pendleton, CEO and Owner of Olde Tyme, represented the company.

The segment of the show discussed natural solutions for health and wellness, which fits Unker’s  to a tee. Unker’s salve and NATURub spray have been made from all-natural essential oils such as camphor and eucalyptus ever since Patricia’s father began making the products in his garage in the early 1980s. The formula itself dates back to the early 1900s, discovered in a library book by another Pendleton ancestor who  sought to hand-craft a salve for his family’s aches and pains.

Patricia's goal for the TV appearance was simple: to share her story and introduce her brand to more people.

While Ms. Patricia’s appearance on The Balancing Act was her first on national TV, it wasn’t the first time that Unker’s has been on a national stage. Through business connections, Patricia met NASCAR driver Mike Wallace, which led to a sponsorship and the Unker’s logo being emblazened on the side of Wallace’s #28 car during the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Daytona.  Little did Patricia know that at that time, her business was racing towards the future.

The segment featuring Pendleton and Unker’s aired nationaly on August 29 and September 5, 2016, and will be seen in syndication throughout the Fall.
